Student Governments

The Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC), including the Graduate Assembly, are the elected representatives of the UC Berkeley student body. As the collective voice of the students, we build student power through leadership development and opportunities for empowerment. Through grassroots campaigns and coalitions, we fight to hold the University, City, State and Nation accountable to student needs. We strive to create and sustain a vibrant, inclusive and equitable campus community, shaping our student government to be a model for social change.

The ASUC values transparency and accountability in the process for envisioning the Sproul Student Center in which we feel that students should engage in. Thus we have advocated for the creation of a Student Advisory Board as well as a Student Council as an avenue for students to voice their thoughts and opinions on the Student Center project. These student-centered bodies actively coordinate needs assessment projects, such as surveys and focus groups, to engage ANY and EVERY student in the process.

The new student center will change the landscape of the way students experience student life and student activities; the new center should speak to every organizer, every performer, every scholar, every student. Toward that end, the student government hopes to preserve the ideals upon which a student center is created and to ultimately revitalize what has been missing from this campus for the past decades.

For students who wish to see a 24-hour study space, a safe performance space, a functioning Multicultural Center…get involved in the process and help move this project forward!
